Serena Marie “Renie” Summers Obituary

Serena Marie “Renie” Summers of Victoria, TX, went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.

Serena was born April 6, 1955, in Corpus Christi, TX, to Victor Mack Summers and Betty Jean (Gordon) Summers. During her high school years, she met the love of her life, Raymond Andrew “Randy” Knutz, as they attended Gardendale Baptist Church together. Over the next 50 plus years, they shared many adventures, including traveling with their beloved German Shepherds. Serena was preceded in death by Victor Mack Summers, her step-mother Jimmie Ann (Goodman) Summers, and by Randy Knutz. Serena was the first of the Summers children to join their father. She is survived by her brothers Perry Allan “Pete” (Deb) Summers, and Mark Andrew (Linda) Summers: by her sisters Sheryl Ann “Sheri” (Hilton) Hunt and Deanna Ruth Summers; and by her nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Serena was a beautify person, inside and out, and will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She loved traveling, cooking, sewing, lampwork, and polymer clay. She loved color and the beauty of nature. She loved solving problems and learning. She spent 30 years working as an information technology specialist and software trainer in a downtown Houston law firm. Her supervisors and coworkers knew her for her efficiency, responsiveness, and calm approach. Her inquisitiveness and tenacity followed her throughout her life. Whether it was in crafts or cooking, she enjoyed learning new techniques and perfecting the execution of them. Serena was believer who found community in the Joy Connection Sunday School class of Northside Baptist Church, and through Community Bible Study. As she watched her life slipping away, she mainly loved her Savior Jesus Christ, and she looked forward to seeing Him face to face.

Thank you to all her friends who stepped up during this difficult time and supported Serena and her family through your prayers and assistance. Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center who overcame great challenges to keep her comfortable in the end.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alistair Begg’s Truth for Life Ministries. His teaching brought Serena great comfort up to the end

Sending flowers or plants to the family, in memory of the deceased, is always appropriate and very appreciated. In the following days and weeks, phone calls and words of comfort taper off. Then, heartfelt pain of a death in the family is really experienced for the first time. The arrival of a beautiful bouquet or living plant can be so uplifting during this stage of grief and loneliness. Realizing that others still care and remember even of weeks after the services, can be great comfort to those in mourning.
