Petra Ramos Escalante, age 79, passed away Friday, October 3, 2025 in Port Lavaca, Texas. She was born on February 1, 1946 in Runge, Texas to the late Amador Ramos Sr. and Sarah Garza.
Petra, a devoted homemaker after retiring from a long career in the food service industry was the heart of her family. Known for her wicked sense of humor and infectious laugh, Petra brought joy and light to every room she entered.
Family was everything to Petra. She loved her friends dearly, but it was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who gave her the deepest pride and joy. Her eyes lit up whenever she spoke of them, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
A true giver at heart, Petra showed her love through countless acts of service—whether it was cooking, cleaning, ironing, or simply being there when someone needed her. She was known to prepare snacks for the garbage collectors and county workers cutting ditches near her home, always thinking of others no matter how small the gesture.
Petra was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, a passion she proudly passed down to her three daughters. Even while living with chronic pain, Petra lived life to the fullest, never letting hardship dull her spirit or her humor.
She will be remembered for her fierce love, her sharp wit, and her boundless generosity.
Petra is survived by her beloved daughters Guadalupe Escalante Perez (Jaime) of Beeville, TX, Louise
Escalante Sandoval (Rick) of San Antonio, TX, and Natalie Sanchez (Juan) of Victoria, TX. She is also survived by her siblings Margaret Rosas of Pearland, TX and Nathalie “Alma” Sanchez, of Alvin, TX, and Ralph Ramos (Martha) of Victoria, TX. Petra is also survived by 6 cherished grandchildren,14 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved spouse of 57 years, Robert Escalante; her parents, her brother, Amador Ramos Jr.; her nephew, Edward Lee Ramos; and her son-in-law William (Buddy) Torres.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 5pm to 8pm at Angel Lucy’s Funeral Home in Victoria, TX, with a Holy Rosary to begin at 6pm. Visitation will resume at 9am Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, TX, with a Funeral Mass to begin at 10am. Burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery, in Bloomington, TX.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Sean Torres, Jacob Perez, Robert Sanchez, Alejandro Perez, James Hayne, P.J. Zendejas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Ramos,Juan Sanchez, Rick Sandoval, and Jaime Perez.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. J. McNeil, the nurses and CNAs of Crown Hospice, Dr. McFarland, and the dedicated staff at Lavaca Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation. A special thank you to all the doctors who cared for Petra over the past 50 years—your compassion meant the world to her and to all who loved her.
