Judy Zuniga

November 30, 1941 – June 30, 2025
Obituary of Judy Zuniga
IN THE CARE OF

Mary Judith “Judy” Zuniga was called home on June 30, 2025. She was born November 30, 1941, in Rock Island, Illinois. Judy was a Registered Nurse and particularly loved working in Labor and Delivery so that she could hold as many babies as possible. Music was one of her greatest passions. She especially loved the holiday season listening to music while she decorated her home and prepared holiday meals for her family. Judy had a lot of fun acting in plays with the Junior Service League of Victoria. She cultivated many strong friendships, across generations. Her friends would say that she was funny, intelligent, a great hostess, a fabulous seamstress and she had a beautiful singing voice. She loved hosting her friends in Estes Park and sharing with them her love for the mountains. She enjoyed crafting, Mah-jongg, and reading. She also loved summers at Lake Travis with her family and any season, but especially fall in Estes Park, Colorado, in the Rocky Mountains. She adored working with fabrics and her sewing room was her sanctuary, a warm reflection of her creativity and many talents. Each of her grandchildren has a quilt that she made special upon their birth, and those will be passed down and treasured forever. She will be dearly missed as wife, mother, grandmother (MeMommy), and friend. She touched the lives of many during her life and they are better for knowing Judy.

Judy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Oscar G. Zuniga, children Lisa Zuniga, Susanna Thornton (Danny), Paul Zuniga (Daphne), and Amy Mabray (Michael), and many beloved grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial is of be offered at ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday the 9th of July at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory, 1309 Mesquite, Victoria, TX.

The family will gather for a private interment.

Pallbearers are Judy’s grandsons; David Zuniga, Clifford Carlsen IV, Paul Carlsen, Paul Michael Mabray, Matthew Thornton, and Keith Thornton. Also helping with the celebration of life are her granddaughters Maria Carlsen, Avery Zuniga, Natalie Thornton, and Mia Mabray.

In lieu of flowers, Judy requested that donations be made to The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory to the Organ Pipe Fund, 1309 Mesquite Lane, Victoria, TX 77901.

We invite you to take a few moments to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with Judy's family at www.rosewoodfuneralchapel.com.

Order Funeral Flowers Now
It is always appropriate, and often times recommended, sending flowers or plants to the family after the funeral services are over. During this period, phone calls and words of comfort taper off. Then, the heartfelt pain of a death in the family is really experienced for the first time. The arrival of a beautiful bouquet or living plant can be so uplifting during this stage of grief and loneliness. Realizing that others still care and remember even weeks after the services can be great comfort to those in mourning.
