Joyce Marie Rhoades Baker, age 83, of Seadrift, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday April 5, 2026 at home, surrounded with the peace and love of her family. She was born on September 5, 1942 in Refugio, Texas, the first daughter born to the late J.R. and Mary Ruth Rhoades.
She is survived by sister Debra K. Rhoades of Victoria, Texas, and special friend Cindy Schneider of Victoria. Children: Kenneth Stuckey (Millie) of Seadrift, Aleene Medina (Kenneth Cady) of Seadrift, Jayda Whiddon (Mark) Tyler, Tx formerly of Port Lavaca, Tx., Katrina Cady (Russell) Seadrift, Lee Englund (Eric) Magnolia Beach, Kevin Klamm of Bloomington, Tx, Benjamin Klamm Jr of Sacramento, California, and Michael Klamm (Lisa) of Port Lavaca, Texas.
She was known as Mawmaw by all her 20 grandchildren and was like a mother to her precious granddaughters Christy Bryant and Haley Stuckey, grandsons Brad Mitchell, Koby and Konnor Parks, Jacob Medina and Aaron Longoria. Joyce was also blessed with her first birth grandson Jason Hennesey, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special fishing friend Eddie Ray Cady and Sherry Taylor.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Prescal Davenport, parents, brothers George Lee, LeeRoy, and Leon Rhoades, sister Lynette Kurtz, granddaughter Jeannette Castro, and grandson, Dwight Beaver.
She was not just known for being a loving, mother, sister, wife, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt or friend, she was also known as a child of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. She believed in Jesus Christ, and we know that she is resting peacefully in the place that he made for her. Her beautiful earthly body is gone, but we know that she is well and whole again in Heaven.
She was a lady of many adventures that led her to try her hand at being an artist, author, owned and ran her own shrimp boat and business with her late husband. Her lifelong passion was spending time on the water with a rod and real in her hand, sunshine on her face, and the wind in her hair. She’d always catch the most or the biggest fish. She will forever be missed, but her love, hugs, and stubborn, sassy personality will be forever embedded in our hearts and minds.
A special thank you and blessings to Hospice of South Texas nurses Judy, Lynn, Jennifer, and Shelby, caregivers April and Jackie, equipment guy Luis and all the staff behind the scenes that make this organization what it is…an extension of Heaven.
Pallbearers will be sister, Debra Rhoades, grandsons, Brad Mitchell, Koby and Konnor Parks, Jacob Medina, and Nick Chapa.
