OBITUARY

Joseph Randal Sedgwick

December 18, 1949 – March 31, 2026
Obituary of Joseph Randal Sedgwick

It is with deep respect and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of a proud Vietnam veteran, Joseph Randal Sedgwick (1949-2026), who served his country with courage and honor. Though he lived a quiet life, his strength, sacrifice, and enduring resilience spoke volumes about the kind of man he was.

A disabled veteran of the Vietnam War, he carried the weight of his service long after his time in uniform had ended. He endured great hardship as a result of his dedication to his country, yet he remained steadfast, humble, and deeply kind to those who knew him. His patriotism was not loud, but it was unwavering—reflected in a life marked by perseverance and quiet dignity.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: the timeless sounds of classic rock, the freedom of the open road on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the sleek power of sports cars, and spending time over coffee at The Kettle. These passions brought him peace and moments of happiness throughout his life.

Though born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Randy became a proud Calhoun Sandcrab during his high school years and spent the remainder of his life calling Port Lavaca, Texas, home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Sedgwick and his sister, Mary Ann Sedgwick.

Though Randy never married, he was a devoted family man in his own way. He is survived by his two sons James Willis and Kevin Willis, both of Owatonna, MN; his grandsons, Jonathan Griffith of Sacramento CA and Evin Willis of Owatonna, MN; his brother, Bill Sedgwick and three nieces, Tracy Jones, Carrie Garrett, and Suzie Randle, all of whom will remember him for his gentle spirit and enduring strength.

He will be laid to rest with gratitude for his service and respect for the sacrifices he made May 28, 2026, at Greenlawn Cemetery at 10:00 am. His life serves as a reminder of the cost of freedom and the quiet heroes who bear that cost.

He will be deeply missed and forever honored.

Thank you Hallettsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Crown Hospice for the care you showed Randy.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to a veteran’s organization.

Sending flowers or plants to the family, in memory of the deceased, is always appropriate and very appreciated. In the following days and weeks, phone calls and words of comfort taper off. Then, heartfelt pain of a death in the family is really experienced for the first time. The arrival of a beautiful bouquet or living plant can be so uplifting during this stage of grief and loneliness. Realizing that others still care and remember even of weeks after the services, can be great comfort to those in mourning.
