James Samuel “Sam” Reeves passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on January 12, 1938, in Junction, Texas to Lois Basil Reeves and Margaret Sloan Reeves. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1956 and went on to build a career at Union Carbide, where he retired in 1998. Sam married the love of his life, Leta Louise Colson Reeves, on December 12, 1959. Together they built a life they loved, a life worth being proud of.
Sam was a ‘one of a kind’ man who had a servant’s heart. To know him was to love him, he never met a stranger and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone. He was a father, a granddaddy, great-granddaddy, and a wonderful friend. But above all, he was a Christian. He spread God’s love anywhere and everywhere and was an active church-goer throughout his life. In his retirement, he enjoyed coffee on his patio, camping, woodworking in his backyard woodshop, and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He was a phenomenal father there for any and every milestone and very active and present in his grandkids’ lives. They had no doubt how proud their granddaddy was of them!
Sam is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Leta Reeves, along with his son, Danny Wayne (Pamela) Reeves and daughter, Sherry Lynn (Darryl) Lynch. He is also survived by a brother, Basil (Rosemary) Reeves, and a sister, Margaret Ann (Walt) Paul. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren who meant the world to him: Danelle (Sheldon) Heinold, Cody (Jennie) Reeves, Anton Reeves, Annie (Bryce) Clark, Spenser Lynch, Dalton (Nadine) Lynch, Preston Lynch, and Jenna (Dalton) Shafer, and 15 great-grandchildren: McKenzie Martinez, Blaine, Delainey, and Emmalynn Heinold, Jovie, Joliene, and Conley Reeves, Aiden and Aaron Reeves, Myles and Barrett Lynch, Parker and Piper Lynch, and Remi and Coy Shafer.
Sam suffered great losses in life having been preceded in death by his parents, brother, Danny Ray Reeves and sister, Lois Allene Reeves, a son, James Samuel “Scott” Reeves, and a great-granddaughter, Mabry Lynn Shafer.
A private graveside service will be held in his honor at a date and time to be determined. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Twin Pines Nursing Home and Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made to the Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion in Victoria, TX.
