It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Guadalupe Kiamar Castillo. She departed this life on June 18, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Guadalupe was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose faith and kindness touched all who knew her.
Guadalupe instilled in her family a deep reverence for God and a strong moral foundation. She taught her children to pray, to respect their elders, and to treat others as they would like to be treated. Her gentle nature and unwavering love were constant sources of comfort and guidance. She never spoke a harsh word and was known for her caring and selfless spirit.
In her early years, Guadalupe worked alongside her sisters-in-law in the fields picking cotton to help support her family. Determined and resourceful, she taught herself to read and speak English. She later found work cleaning homes and offices, where her strong work ethic earned her great respect. She valued hard work and passed on important life lessons, always encouraging her family to give their best and live without regrets.
In addition to her parents, Lonicio Kiamar and Maria Nieto Hernandez, she is preceded in death by a son, Joe Kiamar Castillo, siblings, Lalito Kiamar, Maria Estolia H. Garza, Magie H. Valderrama, Joe Hernandez and Jesse Hernandez.
Guadalupe is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ygnacio Cantu Castillo, daughters; Mary Jane Briones (Mario), Rosalinda Gutierrez, Yolanda Sandoval, and Rachel Castillo, sons, Ignacio Jr. Castillo, Johnny Castillo (Henrietta), and Richard Castillo (Irene). She was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, Alicia C. Garcia, Eric Castillo, Deanna Marie Briones Gustafson (Michael), Kristal Ann Luna (Joshua), Rolando Castillo, Timothy Castillo, Jacob Castillo, Michael Lee Gutierrez (Christina), Lionel Gutierrez Jr., Mark A. Gutierrez, Adan Loza Jr., Jackie Loza, Roslynn L. Abrigo, Elijia Lucerio, Denise Bidales (Genaro), Stephanie Koehne (Dale), and Darlene Truelove (Josh), 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family. Guadalupe will be deeply missed and leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and resilience.
Honoring her by serving as Pallbearers will be, Lionel Gutierrez, Michael Lee Gutierrez, Markie Gutierrez, Timothy J. Castillo, Jacob J. Castillo, Elijah J. Licerio and Michael Gustafson. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be, Eric Castillo, Adan Jr. Loza, and Rolando Castillo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her honor to Elara Caring, 3010 Lyndon B. Johnson Fwy, Suite 1100, Dallas, Texas 75234.
Reciting of the Rosary will be on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 12:15 pm, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm, all at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow at Guadalupe Cemetery in Mission Valley.
