Edolina Salazar Murphy Obituary

Edolina “Eddie” Salazar Murphy of Goliad, Texas, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her daughter on July 31, 2026, at the age of 90.

Eddie was born on October 8, 1935, in Goliad, Texas, to Jasper Salazar and Sarita Carbajal Salazar. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Sarita; her husband, Joseph Frances Murphy Sr.; and her sister, Mable Salazar Swayze.

Eddie is survived by her three children: her son, Joseph Frances Murphy Jr., and his wife, Cindy; her daughter, Alicia Michele Murphy; and her daughter, Monica Murphy Ward, and her husband, Wick. Eddie was “Momo” to her five grandchildren: Shayne Murphy, Trent Ward, Jackie Ward Traweek, Mia Sarah Murphy, and Jessica Murphy Fenn. She was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

Eddie loved sharing stories about the many passions she enjoyed throughout her life. These often included memories of her high school years and the many dances she attended in both Goliad and Victoria. Music and dancing were passions that remained with her throughout her life.

Another of Eddie’s passions was sports. During high school, she played softball and basketball and was a member of the pep squad. As a mother, she coached her daughter’s softball team for many years. She loved watching football, baseball, and tennis. On any Sunday during football season, Eddie and her sister could be found watching a game. They loved the Houston Oilers and the Houston Astros.

Eddie advanced a year in school, allowing her to graduate at age 17. She went on to attend college in San Antonio on a scholarship. She loved her time in San Antonio, where she lived with her Aunt Lucy and Uncle Rongo. She later took a job in Beeville and lived with her Aunt Eva and Uncle Mundo.

It was during this time that she met her husband, Joe, a Navy man stationed in Beeville. Joe and Eddie were married in 1955 at Mission Espíritu Santo in Goliad. Joe was stationed in Hawaii during the first years of their marriage.

The family eventually settled in Alvin, Texas, where Eddie and Joe raised their three children. They were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin. Eddie was one of the charter members who established Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court No. 2073, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

During the early 1970s, Eddie began working as a bookkeeper for a nursing home in Angleton. After working there for several years, she returned to school and received her nursing home administrator’s license in 1976. She was a caring and compassionate administrator who held her staff to high standards. She received many awards for her outstanding leadership.

Eddie worked as an administrator until her retirement in 2001. In 2006, she returned to her hometown of Goliad, where she lived with her oldest daughter. She spent the last five years of her life with her youngest daughter and son-in-law.

Order Funeral Flowers Now
It is always appropriate, and often times recommended, sending flowers or plants to the family after the funeral services are over. During this period, phone calls and words of comfort taper off. Then, the heartfelt pain of a death in the family is really experienced for the first time. The arrival of a beautiful bouquet or living plant can be so uplifting during this stage of grief and loneliness. Realizing that others still care and remember even weeks after the services can be great comfort to those in mourning.
