Charles Ray Johnson Obituary
Charles Ray Johnson
September 16, 1952 ~ June 20, 2025:
Preceded in death by his father Walter "Sleepy" Johnson, sister Rita Johnson, & wife of 31 years, Brenda Johnson.
PawPaw leaves behind his momma, Joyce Johnson, daughter, Keisha Palmer & husband Dan Palmer, granddaughter Keedyn Palmer. Son, Dezi Johnson & wife Leeann Johnson, granddaughters Devin Osburn and Mitrian Johnson, grandsons Logan Lara and Cooper Lara, and great grandson Owen McCown. Son, Bradley Fiore & wife Christina Fiore and grandson Riley Fiore. He also leaves his siblings, Kathy, Lavern, Laura, & Harvey, their spouses and many nieces and nephews.
Carpenter deluxe, Charlie could build anything, including 20+ houses he helped build in Crestwood during his early years, simple shelves, TV stands to elegant 3 bunk beds. He could do it all. He retired from Alcoa after many years and worked as an EMT for quite a while before heading to the hill country and becoming THE maintenance man for Camp Capers for over 16 years. He and Brenda moved back to Victoria in 2013 where he worked maintenance at Tanglewood apartments then started at Latigo Crossing in 2018, where he officially retired in 2024. Loved by many and many he loved. He would never let you go hungry or thirsty, person or pet. He always had doggy treats for any pooch that crossed his path. If you never had a BAPP, you missed out! He would plan meals and prep them in containers to take around his complex for others to enjoy. He will be remembered most for his helpfulness towards others and his willingness to give everything he could to anyone in need. He'll also be fondly remembered for his awesome woodworking skills, Bad Ass Pulled Pork & coleslaw on brioche buns, as well as the tall stories he could tell, the PawPaw Puns, and all the dad jokes,.. so so so many dad jokes.
Kindest, happiest, friendliest person on planet earth; that was PawPaw.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Grace Memorial Chapel at Memory Gardens, 8819 US Hwy. 87 N. in Victoria, Texas with Father Stephen Carson officiating.

It is always appropriate, and often times recommended, sending flowers or plants to the family after the funeral services are over. During this period, phone calls and words of comfort taper off. Then, the heartfelt pain of a death in the family is really experienced for the first time. The arrival of a beautiful bouquet or living plant can be so uplifting during this stage of grief and loneliness. Realizing that others still care and remember even weeks after the services can be great comfort to those in mourning. |
