Charles Dwight Schomburg, age 80, of Victoria, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. He was born to the late Ewald Henry Schomburg and Elsie Lena Koch Schomburg on January 28, 1944 in Ganado, Texas, Jackson County. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Yoakum, Texas and served as a council member. Dwight graduated from Ganado High School in 1962. He attended Wharton Junior College and received an Associate's Degree, Sam Houston University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. He also received his Master's Degree from Prairie View A&M University in Guidance and Counseling and Education.
Dwight retired from the Yoakum Independent School District after 32 years of service as a teacher. Mr. Schomburg taught over 50,000 plus students throughout his career. He truly enjoyed Algebra and Geometry. He also taught in Bloomington, Edna and El Campo, as well as OLV and the Sylvan Learning Center. His career spanned over 40 years as a teacher. He was a UIL Sponsor for Number Sense and Calculators, as well as driving a school bus for 36 years. Dwight became a teacher because he said he had great teachers when he was growing up. He would go to school for life if he could. He loved education. Along with that love of education, he gave 29 years of coaching to Girls Basketball and Boys and Girls Tennis. Dwight's hobbies later in life included yard work, looking at artwork (especially artwork that was unique). He also enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and he loved to go fishing.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Lonnie Gray; sons, Cory Schomburg (Jennifer), Chad Schomburg (Diana) and Clay Schomburg (Crystal), and multiple grandchildren; and his nieces, Toye Thedford, Nikki Reger and Lee Gray.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Elsie Schomburg; grandparents, Charlie and Lillie Koch and Otto and Mary Schomburg.
A visitation will be held from 12 to 1 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home.
