OBITUARY
Betty Ann Wendt
August 26, 1935 – May 16, 2025
Betty Schaefer Wendt was born on August 26, 1935, in Weimar, TX to Oscar and Elsie Schaefer. She married Herbert Wendt, Jr on June 15, 1957 and they spent their life together in Victoria. She is survived by daughter, Kimberly Wendt and her children Shelby Simmons and Zachary Herbst of Victoria, TX, daughter Donna Arkell and husband William Arkell, their son Jeffery Arkell, wife Jodi Briley Arkell and their children, Madilyn and Avery Arkell of Lafayette, LA; sister Sarah Gore, her children Sean Gore, Christopher Gore, Christa Gore Parker and their families and Becky Whitney and her son and family. She is preceded in death by her husband Herbert Wendt, Jr, and her parents.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed fishing and camping, crafts of all kinds, baking and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing for numerous people in the community and her crocheted creations blessed many throughout the years. She served in many organizations in her community and church, spent many years working in the merchandising field and enjoyed being a sales assistant for Hogan Home Builders.
She called out thousands of spelling words, served up ice cream, played cards and was a big encourager to her children, grandchildren and the neighbor kids who came to play. She was always prepared for visitors and was quick to lend a hand to those in need. She loved people and never met a stranger.
Betty spent the last few years of her life happily meeting new friends and playing bingo at Vitality Court.
Her love for Jesus was evident in the friendly way she had of accepting and welcoming others and her legacy of strength and love will continue to be lived out through her children and grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 until 11:00 in the morning on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 4102 N Ben Jordan Street with the funeral service to be conducted at 11:00 am. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the fellowship hall.
The family requests that memorial contributions in Betty’s honor be directed to Our Saviour’s Church or Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion.
We will be forever grateful to the wonderful family at Vitality Court for the loving care they provided during her stay and the beautiful care and support given to her by the Hospice staff.

It is always appropriate, and often times recommended, sending flowers or plants to the family after the funeral services are over. During this period, phone calls and words of comfort taper off. Then, the heartfelt pain of a death in the family is really experienced for the first time. The arrival of a beautiful bouquet or living plant can be so uplifting during this stage of grief and loneliness. Realizing that others still care and remember even weeks after the services can be great comfort to those in mourning. |
